2 Girls & Plastic was created from a love of vintage fashion and the need to produce something artistic and fun. Founders Brandy T. Shaw and Lynn Frauenholz wanted to make getting dressed a little more relevant to people that wear many different "hats" in life as well as many different sizes. Both coming from design and illustration backgrounds, they combined their fashion and sewing knowledge to take a step outside the box of ordinary everyday clothing. They alter vintage finds and embellish them with embroidery, screen-printing and sequins to turn lackluster forgotten garments into revitalized "must haves".

Their fundamental ideology is that clothing should never be boring, and it should always reflect the wearer's style and personality. By taking vintage clothes and altering them they are putting a modern twist into classic shapes, patterns, and styles. Their inspiration spans from the Victorion age through the 1950s and this is played out in the collections they create. There are two collections each year: Lola and Josephine. Lola is playful and bright, reminiscent of the nuclear family and decidedly retro. Josephine is moody and taciturn, top hats and full regalia are common fare.

Although their color stories may vary widely, the collections are interconnected in their main theme and how each item is created. Both designers touch every garment and their ideas meld together into the finished product seamlessly. The usage of the same screen artwork across both collections further helps to keep the theme for each season cohesive.
